About Provincetown
map
Provincetown is the last community located at the tip of Cape Cod. Although Provincetown was not founded until 1727, Bartholomew Gosnold arrived in Provincetown Harbor from Maine in 1602. The Mayflower docked for the first time in the Provincetown harbor in 1620 and is the official first landing of the pilgrims.

Over the years during the 18th century, the town's population fluctuated along with the price of fish. Aside from fishing there was farming which was the next most important thing and there were some salt works and one mill.

A wealth of art and preserved momentous buildings combined with the lure of the sea help Provincetown to maintain a vast tourist and summer home industry. Provincetown offers history, shopping, great restaurants and the smells and sounds of the ocean from all directions.

Loving Our Bear Bodies @ BEAR WEEK in Provincetown 2016
Check out our segment on VICELAND TV's "Ball's Deep" with Thomas Morton.  Please arrive on time. Once we have started, the door will be closed and latecomers may enter the space.  Bear Your Soul events are for all men who love men including trans-men who are living and presenting as male.    Loving Our Bear Bodies is returning to Bear Week this year, adding more sessions, and in a new location! We will be at Strength & Clarity Pilates in the heart of town, on Commercial St, a block from the Boatslip! The workshop is a personal and group journey to loving our own bodies and finding new ways to be intimate with others.   “Loving Our Bear Bodies is an experience of group affirmation, sensuality, and appreciation. We create a safe environment for men to let their guard down and connect more deeply. This requires us to help one another shed our clothing and to witness one another, to let go of our shame and be truly vulnerable. I then guide us into sharing of affirmative intimate touch, honoring each other’s bodies and claiming our pleasure. We give and receive erotic energy, but it is not a sex party. It can be very sexy and arousing but our goal is to empower one another. Participants are asked to set their own boundaries, yet challenge their comfort zones in an atmosphere of mutual respect. It is designed to leave you feeling more empowered and supported by your brothers. By the end of the session hopefully we will feel more comfortable in our own skin and will have formed a tribal bond that we will carry with us when the session is done.” - Freddy Freeman - Facilitator of Loving Our Bear Bodies  This experience requires nudity and sharing of affirmative intimate touch, but it is not a sex party.  The nature of the exercises is to be very sensual and erotic without being explicitly sexual. While intimate touch, fondling, and hugging are encouraged, explicit sexual interaction is not part of this process. Previous participants have stated that this experience has opened their eyes to a new acceptance of their personal physical presence as well how they view their own sexuality and that of those they become involved with. We hope you can join us for this unique experience!

KRISTIN CHENOWETH @ Town Hall
Mark Cortale Presents KRISTIN CHENOWETH in concert with Mary-Mitchell Campbell at the piano for 2 shows only. This event will help raise funds for The Tyler Clementi Foundation. Emmy and Tony Award winning actress and singer, Kristin Chenoweth, takes the lead in a career that spans film, television, voiceover and stage, effortlessly. She received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the ABC series Pushing Daisies (Pushing Daisies was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award and Emmy Award for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy.) Chenoweth lit up the stage of McKinley High as a former student who returned to town with more than the baggage from her flight, on Foxs hit comedy, Glee. In her role as Glees quirky ex-songstress, April Rhodes, she was nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Peoples Choice Award in the category of Favorite TV Guest Star. Though Kristin has often come into our living rooms on hit shows such as The West Wing (where she starred as Annabeth Schott), she may be most remembered by Broadway lovers everywhere for her origination of the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, which earned her a Tony Award Nomination, and her Tony-winning performance in Youre A Good Man, Charlie Brown, for which she stole the show and many hearts in the process. In July, Kristin received the coveted star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of live performances on stage or in theatre. Chenoweth recently made her return back to Broadway, playing the glamorous film star, Lily Garland, in the Roundabout Theatre Companys On the Twentieth Century, which has received rave reviews. Kristins performance earned her the following awards: Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award. She has also earned nominations for the following awards: Tony Award in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical and a Drama League Award. Earlier this year, she co-starred in the Universal film The Boy Next Door, alongside Jennifer Lopez. She was also seen in the film A Bets A Bet (International title: The Opposite Sex.) Each piece of the collection tells a unique story that is representative of her life story and passions. Chenoweth will return to HSN in Spring 2016. In 2014, Chenoweth starred as a poisonous frog named Gabi in the hit animated film Rio 2. She also reprised her nominated role in the 100th episode of Glee. Its no secret that Kristin wears her heart on her sleeve when it comes to her love of theater, which was the catalyst for her charity partnership with the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center (BA PAC) Foundation in her home town in Oklahoma. The Kristin Chenoweth Theater at the BA PAC, renamed in 2012 to celebrate its biggest advocate, supporter and celebrated role model to aspiring hometown performers, welcomes internationally acclaimed concert artists and Broadway productions, provides educational outreach and master classes with touring artists, after-school and summer arts institutes, scholarship programs, community enrichment and opportunities for students to travel and perform on a national level. WOMEN OF THE BOOK: Geraldine Brooks and Amy Bloom, with Gail Mazur
Pulitzer Prize winner Geraldine Brooks will share the Barn’s stage with fellow New York Times bestseller Amy Bloom, in a conversation moderated by poet Gail Mazur. Geraldine Brooks is the author of five historical novels (including March and People of the Book), a memoir, and Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women. Last year,Booklist praised The Secret Chord, Brooks’s fictional portrait of King David, as “a gorgeously written novel of ambition, courage, retribution, and triumph.” Amy Bloom’s catalogue of fiction and nonfiction ranges from Away and Where the God of Love Hangs Out to Normal: Transsexual CEOs, Crossdressing Cops, and Hermaphrodites With Attitude. According to the Washington Post, her latest, Lucky Us, is proof that “if America has a Victor Hugo, it is Amy Bloom, whose picaresque novels roam the world, plumb the human heart and send characters into wild roulettes of kismet and calamity.” Both women have lived rich and variegated lives beyond the page: Brooks as an environmentalist and foreign correspondent, Bloom as a psychotherapist and teacher. Gail Mazur, a Distinguished Writer in Residence at Emerson College and author of seven poetry collections, serves on the Writing Committee at Provincetown’s Fine Arts Work Center.

MICHAEL SCHULMAN
Provincetowns Art House Theatre and Producing Director Mark Cortale will present The New Yorker Magazines celebrated writer Michael Schulman in a free event on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 8PM. Mr. Schulman will read from his new book Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep, published by HarperCollins last month, and featured on the cover of the April issue of Vanity Fair magazine. The evening will also include an audience Q&A and a screening of the 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer for which Ms. Streep won her first Academy Award. Mr. Schulman has contributed to The New Yorker since 2006, where he is the theatre editor of Goings On About Town and has written more than seventy-five Talk of the Town pieces. The book Her Again is the first thoroughly researched biography of Meryl Streep, the most celebrated actress of her generation, who has been nominated for nineteen Oscars and the winner of three. Mr. Schulmans biography recounts Ms. Streeps beginnings as a young woman of the 1970s, grappling with love, feminism and her own astonishing talent. As an ambitious and promising talent, fresh out of Yales School of Drama and charting her way in the New York theater scene at the time, Ms. Streep was a young beauty known to ride her bike everywhere, keep a diary, nap before performances, and stay out late talking about acting with actors in actors bars. She also shot out of drama school like a cannon, landing in her first season in New York critically acclaimed roles in back-to-back Broadway plays, a Tony nomination, and two Shakespeare in the Park productions. Thus the early reference, from her earliest professional beginnings, as Her, Again. The book, and the free event with Mr. Schulman, will take an intimate look at the coming-of-age of Meryl Streep, the Iron Lady of acting, from suburban New Jersey high schooler to Vassar and Yale drama student to her star-making roles in The Deer Hunter, Manhattan, and Kramer vs. Kramer.

MELISSA FERRICK
Mark Cortale Presents the incomparable MELISSA FERRICK for 3 shows only! Melissa Ferrick's 12th original album is a coming home. She has arrived in a place musically that is both familiar and new. Melissa is a better writer, engineer, producer, and overall artist. The self-titled album is, in many ways, a new beginning for Ferrick. Written in just over a year, recorded at home, and released on her own relaunched label, Right On Records, Ferrick has given us a simple, eloquent, and honest acoustic album with an undeniable level of maturity. For long-time fans, this will be a welcome new arrival. For those who are just discovering Ferrick, this is a superb way to be introduced. A completely solo effort in its process, creation, and release, Melissa Ferrick is marking the middle of her career with a perfect return to songwriting, and to herself. Melissa grew up in Ipswich, MA during the 70's, playing the violin and going to jazz clubs on the North Shore with her father, who managed local bands. In elementary school, she learned to play trumpet and bass guitar, which led the way to songwriting in high school. At 16, Melissa was accepted into the New England Conservatory's Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as a trumpet player, giving her the opportunity to tour with the Conservatory's Extension Division, which traveled to perform in California and China. She was accepted to Berklee College of Music on songwriting and trumpet scholarships and chose to continue her music education there from 1988-1990. After two years playing Boston's local rock club scene, Melissa left school and moved to New York City. In 1990, Melissa lived on 14th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, playing at the Bitter End weekly and working at Right Track Recording studios and Chrysalis Records to learn the ropes of the business. In July of 1991, Melissa's phone rang and she was asked to open that night for Morrissey in Boston on his his Kill Uncle tour. She was invited to finish the U.S. dates with Morrissey and to continue on to the U.K. as his opening act. When she returned to the States, at 20 years old, she was offered deals with three major labels. Melissa signed with Atlantic Records, and in 1993 she released her debut album, "Massive Blur." After her sophomore effort, "Willing to Wait," was released in 1995, Melissa was dropped by Atlantic Records. She regrouped and released three albums on Boulder, CO based W.A.R.? Records. In 2000, Ferrick founded her own label, Right On Records, and released a string of Albums and EPs. In 2010, before almost going bankrupt, Ferrick put her own label on hold and signed with NY based MPress Records. Melissa released two albums with MPress, 2011's "Still Right Here" and 2013's "the truth is. Still Right Here debuted on Billboards Heat-Seekers Album Charts, won an 8th annual International Acoustic Music Award (IAMA), and garnered two Independent Music Award (IMA) nominations. The title tracks music video premiered on the launch of Huffington Posts Gay site and won two RightOutTV awards. Ferrick was also a featured music honoree in OUT Magazines OUT100 focusing on artists who make an impact on the community. 2013's "the truth is" was the first self-produced album since 2004 and an evolution in the sound she had developed over the course of her career. The record was also a creative departure in its collaborative approach to the recording process, hiring grammy award winning engineer Trina Shoemaker to mix the album remotely from Alabama and Independent Mastering to master the album from Nashville. The result was a sweeping Americana/Alt-Country record that won the 2014 Independent Music Award for Alt-Country Album of the Year Fan Vote. Ferrick is also an eight-time Boston Music Award winner and regarded by the industry and her peers as one of the most prolific and hardworking artists in the business. Ferrick tours regularly and plays throughout North America, performing upwards of 100 shows a year. She has shared the stage with Morrissey, Marc Cohn, Paul Westerberg, Dwight Yoakam, John Hiatt, Weezer, Tegan and Sara, G-Love & Special Sauce, Bob Dylan, Dan Bern, Ani DiFranco, k.d. Lang, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Joan Armatrading, Mike Doughty, The Indigo Girls and many others. Melissa is also a part-time Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. This summer on June 30, Caitlyn Jenner will appear as the special guest speaker in "A Benefit for Camp Lightbulb" at Provincetown Town Hall produced by Mark Cortale. ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT CAMP LIGHTBULB. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, captured global attention a year ago, in April of 2015, when she revealed to the world that she is a transgender woman. Jenner will join host singer/songwriter Zoe Lewis and performers Well-Strung and Varla Jean Merman in benefiting Camp Lightbulb, which provides a magical summer camp experience in Provincetown for LGBTQ youth ages 14-17. Puck Markham, Executive Director stated, "Camp Lightbulbs theme for our 5th annual year is True You - as we help our campers on their journey to find their Truest Self. We are extremely excited that Caitlyn will be joining us this year as she truly embodies what that journey to finding yourself is all about". The benefit will also feature performances by the Camp Lightbulb campers. Camp Lightbulb launched in August of 2012. Its mission includes celebrating LGBTQ young people by providing them with what it describes as the best summer ever in a magical, week-long, overnight summer camp experience, filled with fun, pride, community, friends, support, self-discovery and memories to last a lifetime. Nearly half of its campers receive a full or partial scholarship to attend the camp. Camp Lightbulb was founded by Puck Markham, a Dutch-American formerly of PaineWebber and Barclays Bank, and founder of Community Money, a UK-based social enterprise which provided financial education to low income families. Markhams mission for Camp Lightbulb originated from personal experience, stating that Growing up can be tough. Growing up LGBT is that much tougher. As a gay man I want to create a special place that is a stepping stone in life for the younger members of our community as they figure out who they truly are, surrounded by peers, support and an embracing community. Camp Lightbulb complies with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, is licensed by the local Board of Health, and is a member of the American Camp Association and the Massachusetts Camp Association. Caitlyn Jenner first told her story during an ABC News 20/20 special interview with Diane Sawyer, watched by more than 17 million total viewers. In June of 2015, she revealed her new name and look in the now famous cover of Vanity Fairs July issue, which drew more than 9 million unique visitors to its website in a single day, the most ever for the site. In 1976, Jenner represented the United States and broke the world record by scoring 8,634 points in the decathlon at the Olympic Games in Montreal, earning the title of "Worlds Greatest Athlete." MELISSA FERRICK
